Proud Mama Moment: Colorado Elementary All-State Choir

This is my daughter’s first year in choir, and she is really enjoying it.  A week or so ago, she casually announced that she was going to try out for ‘this state choir thing’ at school. I told her it was a great idea, but didn’t think much more of it. Last night she came home with great news!

My daughter auditioned for, and was awarded a spot on the 2013 Colorado Elementary All-State Choir. I am so proud of her. Six 6th graders from her school were chosen. So on the 26th of January, we are going to head down to Colorado Springs. The kids spend the majority of the day rehearsing as a group.  Then that night they have a concert. They are given the music in advance, and they will be rehearsing with their choir director once a week beforehand as well. It is going to be such a great experience for her.

I am so looking forward to seeing her singing her heart out on that big stage!

I found this Pinteresting: So I pin a lot of food

Here’s the post where I share with you some of the stuff I’ve found on Pinterest recently. Be sure to follow me on Pinterest as well, because I will have pinned a lot more than I post here.

Caturday: Cali and Tir Na Nog

Cali and Tir Na Nog are my two shyest residents of Ema’s House of Special Pets. I don’t have many pictures of either of them. They tend to spend most of their time in the catroom. Here are their stories.

Cali:

Cali is a beautiful calico with a crooked tail. She was born a barn cat. Trapped at about 10 months old, she had quite an adjustment living in a house. She was fostered for a while before I adopted her. It took her about 6 months before she quit hiding from everything. She’s not really scared anymore, but she prefers to stay out in the cat room where there aren’t so many dogs and kids.

Tir Na Nog:

Named after a mythical fairyland, Tir Na Nog lives up to her name. We don’t see her much. I took Tir Na in when a friend needed to rehome her. Honestly, she is not a great fit for my house of chaos. She is very special, but she is very very overwhelmed by everything in my house, so she spends ALL her time in the catroom. She would do best as an only cat, or a companion to a senior cat, in a childfree home. So we muddle through. I give her special attention when I can.

Friday Video Fun: What’s on the Tabletop

If you aren’t familiar Felica Day’s YouTube project Geek and Sundry, you should be. There is lots and lots to love about it. Felica’s Flog is really pretty awesome. Though really, I think the best part of the whole thing is Wil Wheaton’s contribution to the gaming world: TableTop.

Its like having 4 of your friends over to play a game. Now I know you’re thinking “Watching people play a game…booooring!” But its not, really. Partially because the majority of people on the show are actors, or TV people, so they know how to be on camera. Also, its produced…very well…so the slow parts are edited out, and the shows stay really interesting. My kids and I have watched nearly all of them, and its helped us find some great games to play together. Here are a couple of my favorite episodes from this season:

Ticket to Ride: Hands down, this is my favorite one from this first season. The group that plays really clicks together and its fun to watch. Ticket to Ride has ended up being one of our favorite games to play.

SmallWorld: This is the first episode, and though there are better ones, because Grant Imahara is in it, its my daughter’s favorite. Because of that, it ends up being mine. :)

Fiasco: There are about 5 people I know that I MUST play this game with. This is actually a 3 part episode (the gag reel is worth watching too). I’m only posting part one. You can find the setup here, part 2 here and the gag reel here. This just looks like such a fun game to play, and the group that plays this couldn’t have been more perfect. They had so much fun with it.

Really, all 16 episodes are worth it to me, but I’m a geek.

What kind of games do you play?

Wordless Wednesday: my bin of bling

I needed a way to keep stuff sorted by size and/or piercing style. I’ve collected a lot of really neat jewelry over the past couple years. With 8 different piercings to fill, I need a lot of different stuff.

I want to add a dermal anchor at the base of my throat next…but I’d really like to find one made from bioplast instead of surgical stainless.

Is there a body piercing you want to get?

NaBloPoMo: 13 days in…

I think NaBloPoMo is going really good for me this year. I have mangaged to post every day this month so far. Some of the posts have been pretty bad, and normally I don’t think I would have posted them. This year I am really trying to just post. I know its not going to get me flocks of readers. But really, at this time, that’s not the point. I need to get back in the habit of blogging, so I just want to post. Even if I think it sucks.

My Caturday posts have been the most popular so far. They have been really fun to write. If you missed them, please go meet my Tuxedos or read Tyrion and Arya’s story.

I really think I’m on track to post every day this month.

How is NaBloPoMo going for you?

Parting is such sweet sorrow

That sad image is the corner of my iPad. This summer, it slid off my desk at work and I cracked the bottom corner…but over time that crack spread to my whole screen. This week I’m sending it off to Rocky Mountain Mac Repair to get the screen replaced. Thankfully the digitizer is not damaged  so its just a glass repair.

I am really not looking forward to being without my iPad for a week. Between me and the kids, it gets used so much! Though I think I’d rather be with out my iPad, than my phone.

What tech can you not live without?

I’m tired, it’s late…

I had planned on writing a really good post on WTF is all the Moffat hate with Doctor Who fans, but after the spectacularly crappy day i’ve had, just can’t do it. Most of my favorite episodes of Doctor Who are written by Steven Moffat…so I’m very confused about all the venom. I do still plan to write it, but I must get back to cleaning up the 10 gallon flood I had today and the kitten assisted shattered wine glass.
